Why Should You Search for Emails on Facebook?

LinkedIn gets a lot of hype as the go-to platform for finding business leads. Even so, when I suggest using my Facebook account for the same purpose, I often receive skeptical smiles, as if to say, “Come on, Facebook is just for chatting with friends and family.”

But let’s not jump to conclusions. By combining social media with your email marketing strategy, you can gain serious business value from your Facebook page.

Facebook's Massive User Base and Business Potential

Facebook’s role in business growth is often underestimated. It offers a mix of a vast audience and precise targeting tools, making it an essential part of any modern marketing strategy. Let’s break down why it’s such a powerhouse for finding leads:

A Large Pool of Potential Customers

Facebook boasts a massive user base, making it a prime source for potential leads. According to DataReportal, Facebook is the world’s most popular social network, with over 3 billion users. This impressive reach is partly due to Meta (formerly Facebook) owning other popular services, including:

  • Instagram

  • Messenger

  • WhatsApp

With nearly half of the world’s internet users already on Facebook, this network has plenty of lead-generation opportunities!

Targeted Reach with Facebook Ads

Advertising on Facebook isn’t just throwing messages into the void, hoping someone will notice. It’s smarter than that. You can pinpoint your audience based on age, gender, interests, and more.

This means the people who see your ads are the ones likely to be interested in what you offer. It’s efficient and cost-effective, and you’re talking directly to the people who matter most to your business.

Personalized Email Campaigns That Build Rapport

Once you’ve caught the attention of potential leads on Facebook, you can take it a step further. Use this platform to gather email addresses and then reach out with personalized email campaigns. It’s about taking that initial connection and building on it, turning casual browsers into loyal customers.

Combine Facebook Ads and Email Marketing for Effective Lead Generation

Another reason to find someone’s email on Facebook is its high marketing potential. Facebook has all the tools marketers need to pinpoint their ideal audience by age, gender, location, interests, and behavior. This precision targeting lets you focus your efforts on users most likely to be interested, promoting effective lead generation.

For instance, Wordstream found that Facebook ads boast an impressive 8.25% average conversion rate across all industries! It is not a surprise that marketers around the world have named Facebook a key social media platform for their businesses.

Organic Lead Generation with Facebook Groups

Starting a new business on a tight budget? Facebook is here to help! Its Marketplace, Shops, and Messenger features provide a perfect tooling and an extensive organic lead base to draw those loyal customers. Both entrepreneurs and regular Facebook users enjoy the opportunity.

For example, in 2022, Meta reported that more than 200 million businesses use their apps to reach customers. Similarly, in their Consumer Trends Report: Q2 2024, Jungle Scout highlights that Facebook ranks among the top platforms for social shopping, with 63% of Gen Z and 70% of Millennials favoring it. It’s a perfect example of supply meeting demand!

Advanced Engagement Tools for B2B Networking

Facebook offers various engagement tools, including groups, pages, and messaging features, that business professionals appreciate. Why? Because it’s easier to use one platform for informal and industry-related discussions than switching between networks.

Data for Personalizing Cold Outreach

Unlike LinkedIn, Facebook users are more likely to share personal information, such as:

  • Marital status

  • Vacation photos

  • Interests

  • Events they attend

This data can be the perfect hook for your personalized cold outreach. By referring to something private and similar, you have all the chances of building rapport right from the start.

How to Get an Email Address From a Facebook URL

facebook - How to Get Email Address From Facebook URL

Checking a person’s Facebook profile is the first thing you should try when looking for their email address. Here’s how to do it:

1. Log in and Look Up the Profile

You’ll need your own Facebook account for this method to work. Start by logging into your Facebook account. Once you’re on the home page, look for the search bar. If you’re on a computer, it should be in the top left corner.

If you’re using a smartphone, find the looking glass icon at the top right corner of the page. Enter your prospect’s name in the search bar and press “Enter.” Then, click on the correct profile to open it.

2. Look Up Their Information

Once you’re on your prospect’s profile page, go to the “About” tab, and open it. Here, you’ll find your prospect’s main public information, like their city of residence, educational places, current romantic status, and more.

If you want to personalize your email, you can also use this public information to look for things you have in common, like Facebook friends or school history.

3. Look for Their Email Address

Once you have the relevant information, go to “Contact and basic info.” Here you’ll be able to look up your prospect’s public contact information, like their mobile number, websites, social links, and email address. This step may help you find the email used for Facebook.

This will only work according to their privacy settings. If their email address doesn’t appear on this page, they’ve likely made this information private, so you’ll have to continue with the next option.

4. Verify the Email Address

If an email address is found, it’s a good idea to verify it before using it for outreach. You can use an email verification tool like Verify Email Address or Email Checker to check if the email is valid and active. Keep in mind that not all email lookup tools will have information for every Facebook profile, and some may require a paid subscription to access certain features or unlimited searches.

Some people may have tight privacy settings or may not have linked their email address to their Facebook account, so an email may not always be found. As with any email outreach, make sure you have a valid reason for contacting the person and respect their privacy preferences. If you’re unsure, it’s best to reach out to them on Facebook first and ask if they would be willing to share their email for further communication.

Email Lookup on Facebook via Facebook ID

This is quite a sneaky process, but often undisclosed and overlooked, you might say. Here’s how you can approach this method:

Find the Facebook ID

Your first step is to get the Facebook ID of the person you’re interested in. This ID is unique to every Facebook user.

Use a Private Browser

Open a private or incognito browser window. This helps to ensure that your search is separate from your personal browsing history.

Go to Facebook’s Password Recovery

Navigate to Facebook’s password recovery. This is typically found in the login area, where you’d enter your username and password.

Enter the Facebook ID

In the password recovery section, input the Facebook ID you previously found.

Review Recovery Options

Facebook will then display some accounts, along with recovery options for the account. These often include phone numbers or partial email addresses.

Focus on the Email Address

If an email address is shown (partially obscured with asterisks, like a_ _ _ _ w@_ _ _.de), take note of it. Ignore the phone number, as it’s not helpful for this purpose.

Start Guessing the Email

Based on the partial email and what you know about the person (like their name), start to guess the full email address. In your example, if the target’s name is Robert Niechcial, and the email format given is n_ _ _ _ 8@gmail.com, you might guess it to be niechcial8@gmail.com.

Verify Your Guess

You can check if your guess is correct by attempting a password recovery with the guessed email address. If the system accepts it, it’s likely the correct email.

Use a Facebook Email Finder Tool

Sometimes, the best way to find someone’s Facebook email is by seeing it indirectly through a Facebook email finder. Whereas you can look up someone’s info directly from their public information, you can also leverage third-party email finder tools that have gathered public information for a long time. They can help you search profiles in bulk and get email addresses, even if they’re set to private already.

If that’s the case, you’ll need an email finder tool. Here are the best options:

1. UpLead

UpLead is a powerful and easy-to-use lead generator. With it, you can easily find a person’s professional email address, even if they don’t have it posted publicly on Facebook. We have an email finder to help you quickly and reliably find your contacts’ information. Here are a few of UpLead’s best features:

Search

UpLead gives you access to over 160 million profiles of potential prospects. You can easily browse through them by using over 50 filters (including technographic) to narrow them down and find the profiles you’re searching for. And unlike Facebook, if you can find someone’s email address on UpLead, you’ll know it’s ready to be used.

All emails are checked in real-time to ensure you’re getting the right one right before downloading them. That way, you know you’re not wasting time with an email that will bounce back.

Data Enrichment

Is your list of prospects incomplete because you haven’t found people’s email addresses on Facebook? UpLead can enrich any database to ensure you have the best information on your leads.

Use UpLead’s data enrichment to add their emails and information like your prospect’s job position, industry, preferred technology, etc. You can also enrich your emails by verifying your leads’ emails in real time.

CRM Integration

You can seamlessly integrate UpLead with platforms like Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Pipedrive, and many more, so you can connect it to the tools you’re already using instead of taking a long time to import the data manually.

2. Hiretual

Hiretual is an AI-powered recruiting platform recently formed in Mountain View, California. Its focus is on helping recruiters reach people more quickly by automating specific processes. With Hiretual, users can source over 40 platforms, including social media, to get the emails and other contact information they want.

They can also use Hiretual to screen thousands of candidates simultaneously, manage their talent pools, collaborate with their teams, and gain insights into their processes through the Reports page.

3. SignalHire

Developed by Sendersystems Limited in 2015, SignalHire is another recruiting platform with multiple features to help recruiters handle their prospects. Recruiters can handle training through documentation, live online, and in-person sessions. They can also find email addresses and phone numbers individually or in bulk.

With its Chrome extension, recruiters can also gather more information about a prospect while browsing their Facebook page and other social media platforms, obtaining their email addresses, phone numbers, and information from different social networks.

4. Discoverly

Discoverly is designed to give recruiters a better context. The tool aggregates a person’s social information across Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn and populates a small sidebar in your email inbox. When it comes to finding email addresses, the tool asks you to enter a few possible email permutations, and Discoverly pinpoints the most likely addresses.

5. Atomic Email Hunter

Atomic Email Hunter is a bulk email marketing software designed for online businesses, featuring a Facebook email extractor add-on. The Atomic Email Extractor allows users to look up email addresses with URLs.

Scrape Facebook Emails Easily

To use it, users can scrape email addresses from Facebook profiles by using the Facebook plugin. Once installed, they can sign in to your Facebook account and specify the keywords you want to search for. Then they select the profiles from which they’re interested in getting information.

With the press of a single button, the tool will scrape all the information related to the prospect, including email addresses and other publicly available information. Although this is a very pricey alternative, it may be worth it if you have a Facebook profile with thousands of contacts or if you consistently use Facebook as a primary source of prospects.

6. Facebook Email Extractor

The Facebook Email Extractor Software is an affordable, albeit limited, tool to scrape Facebook profiles for emails. You can look for special keywords in multiple search engines, like Google, Yahoo, and Bing, and across several social media platforms, including Facebook.

You can specify the email address you’re looking for, whether personal or business. Once the tool has located your emails, you can export them into Excel, CSV, and Text to integrate them into your mailing platform. It doesn’t validate emails, so you’ll still need an email verifier to avoid bouncebacks.

7. iStaunch

Email Finder by iStaunch is a simple tool for getting email addresses for free based on a person’s Facebook ID. To use it, enter a Facebook profile link or username and click the ‘Find Email Address’ button. The tool will generate the email. The email address won’t be automatically verified, so you’ll need to use an additional tool for verification.

8. Swordfish

Swordfish simultaneously connects to 200+ network data partners to bring users both personal and business email addresses. To get a user’s email from Facebook, you just need to type in their Facebook URL and username. The tool will find a name, provided it’s public, and verify it on the go.

9. X2Emails

This service is specifically tailored to collect emails from Facebook. It allows you to extract emails from Facebook groups, fan pages, profiles of your friends, and friends of friends in bulk. You just need to connect your Facebook account to the service and choose among the tool’s options.

For instance, to get emails from the Facebook group, you should join it, get its ID, insert it in the tool’s search bar, and click ‘Extract.’ Once the tool extracts email addresses from the group, you can download the Excel file with all the data.

Import Emails from Facebook via an Email Account Provider

Although it’s not a well-known feature, Facebook allows you to import all your contacts into your email provider. This provides you with all the necessary information, especially when looking through multiple contacts. Here’s how:

Yahoo

Yahoo is easy to use when exporting emails from your Facebook account because of its integration. This integration streamlines the process, enabling you to export email addresses quickly.

1. Log in or create your Yahoo email account

Start by logging into your Yahoo email account. If you don’t have one, you can quickly create one. You may also want to create a new account to get a clean and unique backup of my Facebook friends’ email accounts, so I don’t have to separate them from the rest of my saved emails manually.

2. Export your Facebook emails

If you haven’t created a new account, you can start getting Facebook emails from your Facebook account by clicking on the “Import contacts” tool and choosing Facebook. This will open a new window for you to log into your Facebook account. Once you’ve logged in, you can start automatically exporting your Facebook emails and importing them into your Yahoo account.

3. Exporting your emails from your Yahoo account

Once you’ve finished importing all your Facebook emails to your Yahoo account, you can start exporting them from your account. Go to your Yahoo Address Book and select “Tool Export.”

Here, you can input your preferences regarding the type of file and information you want to download. Then, you only need to download your file, which will contain all my Facebook friends’ information and email addresses. This exported file can serve as a valuable resource for your Facebook outreach campaigns, providing a list of email addresses.

Gmail and Outlook

Although Facebook doesn’t have direct Gmail or Outlook integrations, you can still import Facebook email addresses into your email account. Here’s how:

Go to the Facebook page that stores your information

The first thing you need to do is to go to your Facebook Information. Open Facebook and click on the arrow pointing downward at the top right corner. Then, select “Settings & Privacy” and click on “Settings.” Once you’re at the Settings page, look to your left for “Your Facebook Information” and click on it. This is where you can download the necessary information.

Download the information you need

Click on “Download my information.” This will take you to another page to select which information you want. Start by deselecting all, then select “Friends,” and, if you're going to expand your reach, “Followers.” Luckily, you don’t need a lot of quality when it comes to text, so you can ignore it, select HTML as the format, and click on “Create File.”

This may take a few seconds to a few minutes. Once the information is ready to download, you’ll receive a notification. Click on it, and then click on the Download button. You may be asked to sign in again to prove you’re the owner of the Facebook profile.

Get the data you need

You should now have a ZIP file containing the necessary data. Extract the ZIP file and open the file called “Friends.” Since you can’t import my data to Gmail with an HTML file, I must convert it to a CSV file.

To do this, you can use a free online tool like Convertio, which allows you to convert from HTML to CSV. Just click that link, upload your file, and click on Convert. Once it’s ready, you can download your CSV file.

Import it to Gmail

Now that you have the CSV file, go to Google Contacts. To start, click on Import, select your CSV file, and press “OK.” Once the import is over, you can open Gmail and see all my Facebook contacts.

Import it to Outlook

If you want to import the information to your Outlook account, go to Outlook 2016 and click “File,” then click on “Open & Export” and select “Import/Export.” This will open a wizard. Select “Import from another program or file,” then select and import your CSV file. A dialog box will show up when you’re through, telling you, “The following actions will be performed.” Click “Finish ” to have all the email addresses in your Outlook account.

Find Emails Through a Prospect’s LinkedIn Page

Prospects often leave the link to their LinkedIn page in their Facebook profile. In this case, your algorithm looks similar:

  • Follow the link to the LinkedIn profile that a Facebook user pointed out in their profile.

  • Download the LI Prospect Finder Chrome extension. As soon as you do, you’ll see a respective icon in the upper right corner of your browser window.

  • While on a prospect’s LinkedIn page, click the Chrome extension icon, and you’ll get an email in a few seconds

Using Facebook’s API

  • Obtain a Facebook Developer Account. Create a Facebook developer account and obtain a Facebook App ID.

  • Use the Facebook Graph API. Use the Facebook Graph API to retrieve the person’s contact information, including their email address.

Note: This method requires technical expertise and is only recommended for developers and advanced users.

Examining Public Posts and Comments

Sometimes, individuals inadvertently share their email addresses or other contact information in public posts or comments. Use Facebook’s search bar to search within the profile’s posts for phrases like “@gmail.com,” “@yahoo.com,” or other common email domains. Also, look for variations like “email me at…” or “contact me at…”.

Key takeaway: Requires careful observation and manual scanning of publicly available content. Success depends on the user’s past posting behavior.

Reverse Image Search

Sometimes, profile pictures or cover photos contain watermarks or embedded text that might lead to the person’s email address or website. Perform a reverse image search using tools like Google Images, TinEye, or Yandex Images. This can uncover other online profiles or websites associated with the image, potentially leading to the desired contact information.

Key takeaway: A less direct method, but it can be surprisingly effective if the image is used elsewhere online.

Searching on Google and Other Search Engines

Don’t underestimate the power of a simple Google search. Search for the person’s name in combination with keywords like “email,” “contact,” “website,” or their profession. If they’ve used the same name and email address on other platforms, you might find it indexed by search engines.

Key takeaway: A broad approach that leverages the vast index of search engines. Success depends on the person’s online presence outside of Facebook.

Using Third-Party “People Search” Services (Use with Caution)

Several third-party “people search” services claim to find contact information based on a name or social media profile. These services often aggregate data from various sources, some of which may be of questionable legality or accuracy.

Use these services with extreme caution, as they may violate privacy regulations or provide outdated or inaccurate information. Always review their terms of service and privacy policies before using them. Many of these services charge an access fee.

Key takeaway: The riskiest approach. Consider the ethical implications and potential inaccuracies before using this information. Often expensive and may not provide the desired results.

Just Ask

Sometimes, the best way to obtain someone's email address is to ask for it. While this may seem like a bold move, it can be a very effective way to warm up a lead and start building a relationship. When you message a lead directly and ask for their email address, you're showing them that you're interested in connecting with them on a deeper level and that you're willing to put in the effort to make that happen.

Of course, this approach is not foolproof, and not everyone is immediately open to sharing their email address. But if you approach the conversation with a friendly, non-salesy tone and make it clear that you're genuinely interested in learning more about their needs and challenges, you may be surprised at how receptive some leads can be.

Here’s the best piece of advice I can give with this one:

Avoid Coming Across as Spammy or Pushy

Instead of bombarding them with requests for their contact information, try to build rapport and establish a connection first. Once you've established familiarity, you can gently ask if they'd be willing to share their email address so you can follow up with them later.

While it may not be the most efficient method for finding email addresses, directly asking leads for their contact information can be a great way to establish a connection.
